I had a fun science thought hit me today while on a quick walk to Starbucks. It amazed me again how God’s reality is deeper and more wonderful than I think.
As I crossed the street, it dawned on me that I am moving at 900 miles an hour because the earth under me is turning that fast. Yet, I’m peacefully anchored like I’m not moving at all. How is this?
It’s because every atom of the earth, without exception—look around at the hills—LOTS of atoms!—is exerting a force on the atoms of my body and holding me to earth. Japanese, Costa Rican and Starbuckian atoms : ) . . .All these atoms are pulling me from hundreds and thousands of miles away! How is that even possible? How can anything smaller than I can see exert a force that travels thousands of miles and has an effect like that? I don’t have the foggiest idea. But I do know enough of them are collectively accomplishing precisely that as well as anchoring the entire earth together!
God’s message to me? “Acknowledge Me in all Your ways. Entrust yourself to Me this new day. Even through your bumps I will guide your paths well. I’m big enough.”
Jesus, in adversity, “..kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.” –1 Peter 2:23
